Lunoff received his award Aug. 6 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel during the 46th annual awards program.
Hutto High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization advisor Dana Allamon nominated Lunoff for the award. Lunoff has served as Hutto High School principal since 2005. Allamon has served as a past president of the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher's Association of Texas.
"Manny has really supported our program and saw the value in it," Allamon said. "He gives up his time and see kids in action. In the time I have worked with Manny Lunoff, I have found him to be extremely supportive of the FCS department and enthusiastic about our curriculum. He is aware of the nature of our coursework and the opportunities it provides for students to experience hands-on learning requiring the use of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Under his supervision, our Family and Consumer Sciences department at Hutto High School has grown from two teachers to four."
"Manny's support has enabled our department to meet the needs of our students by adding innovative programs," Allamon continued. "Building a new facility for culinary arts with a faculty/staff restaurant and including a coffee bar in the new library will provide opportunities for students to prepare them for a variety of careers in the Hospitality and Tourism Career Cluster. Through his insistence, a new position was created so that 'Ready, Set, Teach' could be added to our FCS curriculum. With this program, students will be able to earn college credit by choosing a program of study in the Education and Training Career Cluster."
Lunoff said he enjoys being involved with the school's FCCLA program.
"The teachers and administrators involved with FCCLA do such a phenomenal job with their program," Lunoff said. "It provides such a great opportunity for students and teaches them those needed life skills. How can you not want to support those teachers that support those great life skills?"
Along with thanking Allamon for the award, Lunoff thanked HISD career and technology director Don Kuempel, HISD Superintendent David Borrer and HISD Assistant Superintendent Ben Carson.
The Hutto High School FCCLA organization is a part of the Family and Consumer Sciences teaching curriculum, Allamon said.
Hutto High School's FCCLA has been a part of the school for at least 20 years, Allamon said.
At FCCLA competitions, students compete in service learning and career-based activities such as job interview, entrepreneurship and culinary arts. In the past, Lunoff has served as one of the judges for the job interview portion of FCCLA's regional competition.
In some years, the Hutto High School FCCLA has had as many as 60 students competing on the regional, state and national levels, Allamon said.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher's Association of Texas is the only organization that lobbies for family and consumer sciences, Allamon said.
