This title distinguishes GENaustin's Round Rock team as the group of youth that had the largest impact on students throughout the school year. This is GENaustin's first year to be in Round Rock ISD.
ClubGEN is GENaustin's research-based, peer-led after school program for middle school girls, where high school girls are trained and employed to lead a curriculum designed to prevent high risk behaviors that lead to eating disorders, teen pregnancy and juvenile delinquency.
Each month of the school year, clubGEN delves into different topics such as media literacy, body image, bullying and substance abuse.
The GENaustin Round Rock High School team is comprised of seniors Emily Leigh, Christina Munoz, Ashton Woods, Melanie Limuel and juniors Donna Farhat and Brayleen Holmes.
The team travels to C.D. Fulkes every Tuesday after school with GENaustin staff member Kari Reinhardt.
"This serves as a validation for all the wonderful work our high school facilitators are doing in mentoring the middle school girls," said Program Manager Lora Alaniz.
"We must not forget that the skills these girls are learning at GENaustin are helping to prepare them for college and future career opportunities."
GENaustin will receive its Volunteer of the Year award at Round Rock ISD's 2009 Partnership Appreciation Breakfast Wednesday, May 20 at the RRISD Performing Arts Center, 5800 McNeil Drive, in Austin.
