| Spartans win CAYSA cup title The Round Rock Soccer Association Under 10 Boys team - the Spartans - won the Capital Area Youth Soccer Association Cup Championship Tournament at the CAYSA Soccer Complex in Manor this past weekend.
The Spartans continue RRSA's strong tradition of having at least one CAYSA Cup champion in each of the last five seasons.
The Spartans have won the RRSA League Championship in two of the last three seasons and finished third at last year's CAYSA Cup Championships. The boys set a goal of returning to the Cup Championships and winning it this season. They practiced hard all year on the Soccer Fields at Old Settler's Park and trained at Avila Indoor Soccer in Austin to achieve their goal.
The CAYSA region is composed of over 40 soccer leagues including clubs from Round Rock, Austin, Georgetown, Lake Travis, Westlake, Pflugerville, Leander, Hays, Bastrop, and Lockhart. The Spartans were undefeated during the regular season and only suffered one loss in the tournament, finishing with four straight wins including a 2-0, shutout victory over the Town & Country league champion in the CAYSA Cup Championship game.
The Spartans team is a blend of fourth graders from Old Town, Caldwell Heights, Caldwell and Kirby Hall Elementary Schools. CAYSA Cup Championship game team captains are Chase Griffin and Cole Brown. The team is coached by Will Griffin and Todd Brown of the Forest Creek and Cimarron neighborhoods in Round Rock and the Team Manager is Heidi Askew of Hidden Glen.
