Season, era close with loss

Round Rock Express pitcher Josh Banks throws through the rain against the Albuquerque Isotopes Monday at Dell Diamond. Round Rock (57-87) closed out the season with a 4-0 loss to Albuquerque.
In many ways the Express season shifted on June 20. With an eye on the future and needing a shot in the arm, Houston called up steady center fielder Jason Bourgeois, top prospect Jason Castro and National League Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Johnson from the Triple-A feeder club.

Tigers cruise to third victory of season
Playing their second opponent from Mexico in the first three weeks of the 2010 football season the uniforms changed, but the results remained the same as the Stony Point Tigers (3-0) defeated Monterrey, Mexico's Prepa Tech 59-7 at Kelley Reeves Stadium Thursday night.

Lady Tigers drench Hutto with points to win volleyball match
While Tropical Storm Hermine poured drenching rain outside of the Hutto gymnasium the visiting Stony Point Tigers were raining down points on the Lady Hippos.

Mavericks win wild three-way dual
Kasey Decker collected 18 kills in two matches as the McNeil Mavericks won a wild three-way dual volleyball match by beating Anderson 25-21, 25-7, 25-14 after surviving a marathon win over Elgin 26-24, 17-25, 26-24, 25-27, 15-8 in non-district varsity volleyball action.

Lady Crusaders rally past Brentwood Christian
Round Rock Christian Academy appeared a little weary in its Tuesday night win over Brentwood Christian. RRCA posted a 4-1-2 record during the weekend tournament at San Antonio Lutheran before returning to district play Tuesday night promptly losing game one 25-17.

Lady Dragons sweep Connally
The Round Rock Dragons defeated the Connally Cougars Tuesday night in straight sets 20-25, 20-25, 19-25. The Dragons were led by the play of Lauren Aiple, and Trisha Langely. Aiple finished the match with 12 kills and 10 assists.

Cedar Ridge Raiders meet the coaches
On Sept. 1 the Cedar Ridge Raiders welcomed the community to their newly built campus for a chance to meet the coaches. The entire band was on-hand along with the cheerleaders and drill team members, giving the whole event a festive Friday night feel.

Mallory Blauser ripped 16 kills and added 14 digs as the Round Rock Christian Academy Lady Crusaders swept visiting Bryan St. Joseph's Catholic 25-14, 25-22, 25-18 in TAPPS district volleyball action.

Express blank Isotopes 3-0
Shane Loux tossed his first complete-game shutout since 2004 and the Round Rock Express put the brakes on a nine-game losing skid with a 3-0 blanking of the Albuquerque Isotopes in Friday night's series opener at The Dell Diamond.

Hutto Hippos fall to Pflugerville in volleyball thriller
The Pflugerville Panthers and Hutto Hippos entertained an exuberant crowd with an exciting volleyball match at Panther Gym. After dominating the first two games 25-19, 25-13, the Panthers lost the next two games to the Hippos 22-25, 22-25, before winning the final game 15-13.

Express fans give Miller a special send-off
Friday night at Dell Diamond dozens of the best prospects in the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers minor league systems took to the field in front of a large and raucous pre-holiday crowd. But it was before the game between the Round Rock Express and Albuquerque Isotopes that the real stars of the evening shined.

Tigers trounce visiting Thunderbirds
The Thunderbirds of Wagner brought a state top-50 ranking, two consecutive years of playoff qualification and the sting of a last-minute loss in their season opener to face the Stony Point Tigers at Reeves Stadium Friday.

Stony Point was not the remedy for the Thunderbirds pain, laying on some hurt of its own in a dominating 56-14 win.

Red-hot Hippos crush penalty-prone Trojans, 51-22
WACO - University scored first but gave up touchdowns on their first four defensive possessions Friday night as they fell to the Hutto Hippos, 51-22.

Hutto's Xavier Wynn scored three 3-yard touchdowns and Darrian Allen rushed seven yards for another touchdown as the Hippos took command.

The Trojans managed just 110 total yards last week in a 29-0 loss but rebounded with a better performance this week.

McNeil loses to Panthers
WACO - McNeil fired the opening salvo at the newly renovated Panther Stadium on Friday, but it didn't have many bullets after that.

In Midway's first game on campus since 2008, the Mavericks marched down the field on their opening drive for a touchdown. But the Panthers fed off the energy from the raucous, nearly capacity crowd on their home side and pitched a shutout the rest of the way in a convincing 31-7 victory.

Steele rattles Round Rock on road
Schertz - Malcolm Brown is a man among boys. The 218-pound senior will be carrying Cibolo Steele on his back this season, just as he carried the Dragons downfield Friday in a 24-14 Knights victory at Schertz's Lehnhoff Stadium.

Bowie bests Warriors
AUSTIN - The Westwood Warriors went on the road to face the Bulldogs of Bowie High School, looking to bounce back from last week's defeat at the hands of the Cedar Park Timberwolves, but Bowie scored 28 first-quarter points en route to a 37-19 victory over the Warriors.

Crusaders clobber Indians with potent offensive attack
PRAIRIE LEE - The Round Rock Christian Academy Crusaders topped the Prairie Lea Indians 54-19 Friday night in an outstanding offensive showing. The Crusaders' offense tallied an impressive 327 total yards rushing.
