Round Rock man to take part in 'Wings Across America'

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

A group of model airplane enthusiasts will be flying a battery-powered radio controlled airplane in all 48 contiguous United States as part of "Wings Across America" 2008.

Joe Perch, of Round Rock, is pilot No. 125. He expects to pilot the plane this weekend at the club field for the Georgetown Aero Modelers Association just north of Georgetown.

This type of project has been attempted before but this time pilots will hand-deliver the plane from pilot to pilot.

The plane is a "parkflyer" - a small RC plane typically flown in a field such as a local park or soccer field.

Perch was contacted by e-mail to participate because of his love of RC flying, which has been a passion of his for more than 20 years.
